Microsoft Windows Server 2003 – set the default logon domain for RDC Monday, 3 September 2012

Sometimes Remote Desktop Connection to Windows Server 2003 can’t be established not because of wrong [ user ] or [ password ] but because of missing  [ domain ]. That can’t be saved on client side, the resolution is on server side, just follow the procedure:

  • open registry editor ( Start > Run > regedit )
  • browse for: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  • in right pane look for [ DefaultDomainName ] double click and write your domain name in [ Value data: ] or if there is none, right click on right pane > New [ String Value ] with Value Name [ DefaultDomainName ] and fill in your domain name
