2011 Windows 7 Starter – Personalization Panel

Seen that Windows 7 Starter has no Personalization Panel we must improvise:

  • Add / Remove System Icons on dektop:
    Start > Search > type [show or hide common icons on the desktop]
  • Display / Screen Saver / Resolution / etc:
    Start > Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Display

2011 How to disable – File Security Warning under Windows 7

Opening executable files from network even if is Local Area (Trusted Network) you get annoying [Open file - Security warning]. This message can be ovoid using following procedure:

  • Start > Run > type [gpedit.msc] to open [Local Group Policy Editor]
  • Local Group Policy Editor > User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Compoenents > Attachment Manager
  • open and modify [Inclusion list for low filestypes], when you enable this option under [Options] > [Specify low risk extensions] you need to insert files extension that you want to exclude from security warning.

2010 Disable Thumbs.db under Windows 7

  • log on Windows 7 as Administrator or with administrative privileges
  • to open the local Group Policy object, click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK
  • expand the User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer (picture)
  • on right pane of the Editor window “Turns off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files.” click to enable (picture)
