Review Lenovo Essential B570e – Intel B960 Thursday, 7 June 2012

Lenovo Essential B570e is just another budget notebook with almost i3 performance but at half price. The overall quality doesn’t shine but is not that bad as you would expect.  The case has clean and simple design. When lid is closed, the laptop seems to be made from one piece. The surface is matte and (hopefully) scratch resistant. In any case the design is successful, especially for low-end laptop.

Another nice feature is the cover that protects the LCD is sturdy and solid, does not buckle at the current push in a normal situation. The same applies for the plastic band that covers the screen edges, very well placed, with no gaps between LCD and the plastic edge band. The hinges are well anchored, allows display to be operated open / closed with minimal effort.

The LEDs for HDD, Num Lock and Caps Lock are located perfectly, in the right corner above the keyboard. Light intensity is good, not intensely annoying. The LEDs for power supply, battery and screen are located on the edge, uncomfortable to see if your laptop is not up but this is not a problem because LEDs are not of current interest to the user. All LEDs are white except for the power adapter and battery, that are flashing red when the battery is charged.

Battery lock system is lacking, unfortunately laptop was equipped with a single switch that is capable of securing the battery in place. Therefore, at the end where is located switch that helps to remove the battery, there is a permanent gap for about 5mm.

Even if it has an N Wireless Network Adapter the average transfer rate is around 4.20 MBs/s, maximum connection speed is 65MB/s, with some minor tweaks in adapter properties you can achieve 72MB/s connection speed with average transfer rate of 5.00 MB/s.
