Dell Inspiron N5110 materials quality are better than most average laptops on market today, if I had to choose between Lenovo G570 and Dell Inspiron, Dell certainly would be the choice by far. The case has clean and simple design but everything shines and is not necessary a good thing, as stated before. Like the Lenovo G570, unfotunately with lid closed, you can see that the line doesn’t give “one piece form” impression but that was never Dell’s main design feature so is nothing new. Instead Dell’s goes as usual for round smoth edges and cornes. The surface is shiny and, of course, this means that is very sensitive to scratches and dust as you can see in the picture, just carefull cleaned but the dust is all there.
The cover that protects the LCD is sturdy and solid, bends very little at the current push on the middle in a normal situation but is shiny and and verry hard to mantain clean. The same applies for the plastic band that covers the screen edges, very well placed, with no gaps between LCD and the plastic edge band but again shinny and no scratch resitance. Has only two rubber bands attached to the edges that keeps the LCD screen from pushing into keyboard and other two on the main case, just under the keyboard on sides. Not much inspiration there i can say but are not that thick to “feel them”, are enough to asume that the display will never touch the keyboard. The hinges are well anchored, allows display to be operated open / closed with some effort and you need to keep the main case firmly.
The Alps touchpad as usual is high quality component, click buttons response is excelent and are very quiet. The slight surface has no imperfections so, the cursor follows the movements exactly and precise. The keyboard is also silent and responsive, ergonomic and airy design allows better typing experience.
The LED for Caps Lock are located on the key, Num Lock has no LED the notification is on the screen if you install Dell QuickSet. Light intensity is good, not intensely annoying. The LEDs for HDD, power supply, battery and wireless are located on the edge, uncomfortable to see if your laptop is not up but this is not a problem because LEDs are not of current interest to the user except for HDD LED which was placed uninspired. All LEDs are white except for the power adapter and battery, that are flashing red when the battery is charged.
Battery lock system is robust, solid and hold steady the battery in place, no gap movement, the capacity has only 4080 mAh with voltage at 11.1v.
For an mobile N Wireless Network Adapter the maximum transfer rate is 9.47 MB/s with maximum connection speed at 130MB/s, doesn’t matter power saving mode set, CAM (Constantly Awake Mode) or Max-PSP (maximum Power Saving). So, we have high transfer rate for an notebook. Average transfer rate is around 6.00 MB/s moving allover the place, with more or less walls between notebook and wireless router.
