Fractal Design Midi Case Core 1000 review Monday, 24 June 2013

Fractal Design Case Core 1000 is micro-ATX ready chassis that comes with more quyality than average cases, with no PSU and one 120 mm silent front-fan. The case is smaller than average miditower cases. In terms of design the Core 1000 is simple, black painted, without accentuated curvatures in two words is simple and compact.  The cage for inner drive units is something new, is only a plate where you can attach only two drives, but for an office / business workstation seem enough. The case is well finished, there are no sharp edges, half of screws are are tool-less thumb-screws. Despite of the fact that has only 175mm x 355mm x 420mm (WxHxD) inside is quite roomy an lightweight too.

As you can see from pictures the Core 1000 is conceived as a modular casing, all components can detach to be cleaned or replaced, if necessary. The top panel can be taken out by removing screws at the back and then pull the panel out. The front mesh is made from steel so is quite robust and sturdy.

The only minus that i can see is the positioning of power/reset switches and HDD / power LEDs, which are on the side, near front USB ports.

The design

The Fractal Design Core 1000 come with clean / straight design. Nothing to add, what you see is what you get. Light weight case just perfect for small spaces, even as mobile desktops if can call them like that.

The noise

Used even with standard cooler from intel, running at 900rpm and the included 120mm fan wich runs at 1000 rpm, the system is silent and the CPU/HDD temp never got over 40c even if the room temperature was around 30c on testing time. Of course we are talking about average usage, not full load on CPU.

The inside

Even is a compact and small chassis it offers plenty of space for the mATX motherboard, PSU and the two internal hard drive units and 3.5″ units (HDD, optical, etc). Cable management can be done just easly as for a full size tower, as you can see in pictures we managed to hide most of the cables and make more room for air ventilation.
