Review HP Pavilion G6

0

HP Pavilion G6 with a general appearance of glossy gray – black  is nothing special for an budget machine. Surfaces that are made of glossy plastic, which is not the best choice since it smudges easily and specially because they do not resist scratches as much as matte surfaces.

  • Case and display : the case is quite sturdy for a budget notebook. Screen lid twists easily but that is nothing new for any notebook. The good part is that display joints are metal made, strongly anchored into the chassis. And, well like many others the screen is prone to fingerprints.
  • Connectors : on the right side upper corner we have USB and power conectors which are excellent positioned. On the left side are USB connectors, headphone – mic jacks,  integrated card reader and HDMI connectors that are not in the best place but are close.
  • Touch Pad : with average sensitivity has an strange texture. Unfortunately pointer speed can be changed only through Windows settings, which are not enough to traverse the whole screen with one motion.
  • LED indicators : there are disk and power indicator lights which are positioned in the worst place, on the left side corner. Other LEDs are perfectly positioned on each button with ON / OFF function, wireless LED is on F12 and power LED is on the power-button and in addion the power plug has another LED which is orange on charge and it turns white when the battery is full. Even Caps Lock has own LED.

For perfomance, benchmark results see Review Dell Vostro 3550

Review Logitech Z906 5.1 Speaker System

0

Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system. Let’s take a look at the system quality. The satellite speakers are simple but stylish and beside all are surprisingly solid and heavy. Rubber feet are highly efficient, fully adhere to the surface. Even they seem to be small, satellites dimensions are 155mm x 100mm (H x W ) inclined at 75 degree and can be mounted on wall. The subwoofer has 290mm x 280mm x 320mm (H x W x L) indeed is way smaller that Z5500 one but has only 10 mm less in hight and 50mm less in lenght than Klipsch Promedia 5.1 subwoofer. The finishes are good but could be better, speaker grille is perhaps the most troublesome because of outside shell that comes out of the case with 25mm. The good thing is that is ferm and solid.

The sound quality is not bad seen the oldest brother, Z5500 maybe not that loud but still is enough for home use. Clear sound even when turned up loud. The bass is rich enough, crisp and clear, fills the room perfectly. If i look back at my oldest system, Klipsch Promedia 5.1 i can hear the difference especially for low frequencies, which are not so natural as for Klipsch but is not that disturbing as i expected. To quantify, we can say that on a scale of 1 to 10, Klipsch is 10 and the Z906 at 8.5. For stereo auditions the 3D effect function is quite nice, does its job by filling all five speakers. In terms of generated heat the case remains cool only the backplate is hot, around 45oc but anyway, much colder than the Klipsch.

If we look back at the Z5500 we can safely say that the new console is better quality in every way. The design resembles the satellites. LEDs and buttons settlement easily highlights the functionality, anyone that sees even for first time an 5.1 speaker system immediately understand what effect has each button and representation of each LED. Maybe a little less bright LEDs would have been indicated seen that the color is orange.

The only real downside that i see for Logitech Z906 speaker system is the lack of HDMI connectors and, maybe the short lenght and poor quality of 6-channel cable that comes in the package. There is something more, you can adjust the sound level for subwoofer, rear left/right speakers and center speaker only. This is more than odd even for Logitech, there is no hardware support to adjust the level of front left/right speakers. I’ve played some 5.1 audio tracks, i tried to change the volume for the rear speakers and the result was as expected, the sound volume difference was clearly visible but for front speakers was almost nonexistent fade effect, i couldn’t hear the difference.

Review Dell Vostro 3550

0

Designed for small business, the Dell Vostro 3550 laptop is packed with features as USB 3.0, HDD at 7200rpm, Wireless N + Bluetooth 3.0 and Gigabit Ethernet adaptors, switchable dual graphics with Intel HD 2000 and Radeon HD 6630M and second generation of Intel i5 CPU. Its standard 15.6″ screen offers enough display space without sacrificing the portability. With only 2.47 kg and 375.4 x 260.2 x 30.4 to 34.8 mm is quite lightweight and small enough to be easily carried.

  • Power : better managemnet of battery life with Switchable Graphics Technology. When requiring less power, your laptop automatically switches to the smart Intel integrated HD graphics. The screen opens to a wide angle, making it possible to use it effectively on a laptop desk stand. 6-cell Lithium Ion battery (48WHr) that comes with the laptop is nothing special but seem enough to keep up for two hours of medium usage.
  • Case : both metal joints and aluminum housing gives added strength. The drawback comes when we talk about resistance to scratches. The laptop feels relatively solid except that part of the casing in the back middle of screen that bends easily if you push. We expected something more solid taking into account aluminum case. The laptop edges are quite sharp, which may hurt your palms after extended use.
  • Touch Pad : is not great but has above-average sensitivity, is large but that is not necessarily an advantage. You need some time to get used to it. In any case using only Windows settings are not enough to have an acceptable experience. It is imperative to install Alps TouchPad to accelerate the cursor pointer.
  • LED indicators : the disk/power/battery/wireless indicator lights are not easily visible because they are positioned on the side, which is perfectly vertical. That removes any hint of what happens unless you pull back to see what happens, when you experience issues related to wireless connection, disk or power.
  • Connectors : the USB connectors and headphone – mic jacks are on the left – right side upper corner which are excellent positioned. Same applies for integrated card reader, eSATA and HDMI connectors.
  • Memory : laptop comes with a 4GB single module which automatically disables the dual-channel capability. So it is advisable to buy a second memory module to gain the maximum possible data transfer rate.
